Focus Your Joy:  It doesn’t have to be a Butterfly

So often people are looking for the perfect situation, the perfect place, the perfect circumstance. What I recently discovered, though, is that the best things come in many packages and are disguised in many ways.

Little Things Mean So Much

The real understanding came after I lost my brother. It seemed like every time I would sit outside and grieve there was always a yellow butterfly nearby. Weeks later after I moved to our new home, I was standing on my back-porch grieving. And to be honest, I was looking for a butterfly.  I felt so down when it did not appear.

Then, out of the corner of my eye up near the floodlight on the porch I noticed what looked like my butterfly.  Oh, I felt that calmness, that peaceful feeling wash over me. You probably know the one I am talking about.

What Really Matters

As I looked closer, I realized that it was actually a large moth.  And I realized that our peace, that warmth – or what I refer to as God’s love – does not have to look like a butterfly.  It can come in surprising ways.  I know that he sent that moth to show me that he is always here for me – not the butterfly, but him.

Sometimes I feel the lessons learned are ones that can be applied to many other areas of our lives. We are all looking for that special certain thing that is going to change our work, our life, our fortune – basically rock our world.  But there are things around us every single day that can do just that.

Reach Out and Make a Difference

So, in my days with Benefits4Success I have met many who have gone through difficult times and gained strength (or joy) as a result. As I told my story, you probably thought of similar times. either personal or even professional. I know I have had times like this in my previous corporate life and as a business owner. This Focus Your Joy blog is focused on Lessons Learned either by myself, my family, or my acquaintances.

Reach out and share your JOY stories so they can be shared with others through this “Focus on Joy” blog. Times that could lift another up just by telling your story.  I found that people who give of themselves, have the most to gain.
